Event description:
As the year turns slowly toward the spring equinox, our small group will gather at the Station in the wild forest near the sea in the company of great trees, winter silence, deer and wolf, rabbit and fox. We will explore deep questions of the heart.
Sage Magdalene, our guide, will meet daily with us via the internet and invite us into the territory of devotion, love and longing. We will explore ceremonies and practices in connection with the wild others. In particular, we will be opening our voices, risking expression of songs for the beloved, thus awakening the fountain and fire of the heart. To what great purpose might your passionate heart devote itself? It is a risk to ask and a risk to discover the songs of longing, the songs of loss, the songs of tenderness, the songs of grief, and the songs of devotion. Yet great freedom may be found through the portal of the open-hearted, full-throated voice.
THE FIRE IN THE SONG
The mouth opens
and fills the air
with its vibrant shape
until the air
and the mouth
become one shape.
And the first word,
your own word,
spoken from that fire
surprises, burns,
grieves you now
because
you made that pact
with a dark presence
in your life.
He said, “If you only
stop singing
I’ll make you safe.”
And he repeated the line,
knowing you would hear
“I’ll make you safe”
as the comforting
sound of a door
closed on the fear at last,
but his darkness crept
under your tongue
and became the dim
cave where
you sheltered
and you grew
in that small place
too frightened to remember
the songs of the world,
its impossible notes,
and the sweet joy
that flew out the door
of your wild mouth
as you spoke.
